Bo Zhang, PhD, PEng
Assistant Professer
Dr. Zhang is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, where he also obtained his MSc in petroleum engineering and Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering.
Dr. Zhang is the founder and principal investigator (PI) for GeoResourceCloud Research Group at University of Alberta. Over the last three years, Dr. Zhang has been awarded over 1 million Canadian dollar research grants from NSERC, Natural Resource Canada, Canada Foundation for Innovation, Canada First Research Excellence Fund and Alberta Innovates. His research interests encompass: 1) experimental and numerical investigation of thermal-hydro-mechanical-chemical (THMC) response from pore to field scale; 2) multiscale modelling and simulation of subsurface energy geotechnics; 3) data-driven decision-makings in in-situ recovery/open-pit mining of oil sands, CO2 storage and utilization and geothermal system.
Dr. Zhang is accepting applications of prospective graduate students (MSc, PhD) and postdoctoral researchers with the background of, including but not limited to, geotechnical engineering, petroleum engineering, mining engineering and civil engineering. Highly motivated undergraduate students and M.Eng students looking for research experience are also encouraged to apply.
