Walid Ben Saleh
PhD Student
Walid is a PhD student in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, having joined the GeoCloud research group in September 2022. He holds an MSc degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, obtained in 2012, and brings a decade of oil and gas industry experience. Prior to joining GeoCloud, Walid worked as a reservoir engineer for Mabruk Oil Operations and as a Frac and Acid field engineer for Halliburton, both in Libya. Walid also has a great passion for teaching and mentoring university students. He taught numerous undergraduate courses as a primary instructor including core analysis, cerement and drilling fluids labs and more, and mentored several students at Misurata University during the period from 2014-2022.
Walid research interests include reservoir modeling and characterization, reservoir geomechanics, hydraulic fracturing and a keen interest in machine learning for energy applications. Currently, Walid’s research focuses on quantifying the geomechanical and geological uncertainties in Carbon storage simulation models by developing innovative data-driven models and data assimilation workflows.
